You can put the chain back on your automatic garage door opener using a simple adjustment mechanism.
Garage door chain off track.
Look for a rope and handle dangling from the center of the door opener track.
Separate the garage door opener from the door.
When the garage door goes off track it can be a serious inconvenience.
Pull the rope in order to release the door from the opener.
Once the door is back on track knock the track back into position with a rubber mallet.
Remove the locking pliers.
This allows you to operate the door manually.

If you find that your garage door opener chain falls off the track on which it has been placed you will need to put it back up and then tighten the chain to stop this happening in the future.
Over time though this slack can increase or the gear and sprocket assembly can wear and the chain may pop off the sprockets.
Reach up and pull the handle to disengage the opener.
Raise and lower the door manually to ensure it is operating properly.
